This is a question that many laser enthusiasts and professionals alike have had to ponder over the past few years. We are constantly being bombarded with mixed messages from the media or the internet, hearing stories of dangerous laser pointer usage as well as professional research being done with the high tech tools. But the question still remains fresh in many hobbyists mind, and the answer is simple, YES. Assuming you are not using your high power laser in any illicit manor (aim towards people, motor vehicles, Airplanes, etc.), there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Pointers are available for a plethora of applications from simple presentations to military usage for insurgent intimidation, so as you can imagine their versatility covers a wide range of uses.

But where does too much power become a problem? Who is to say a laser should not be allowed to produce a powerful solid state beam? Many contestants of laser pointer laws claim they are not strict enough on importers of the high power goods, all while laser supporters push to allow higher output powers for wider availability. Its come to a relative stalemate as far as the laws are concerned, and this has upset many people against the hi-tech gadgets. With so many videos on YouTube of burning laser pointers lighting matches and popping balloons, its not hard to see the clear safety hazards that they present to all who are in their presence.

At one point there was enough public recognition of the powerful laser problem that the FDA now regulates which lasers are legal and illegal to use in the United States. They have established certain safety regulations that all hand held and industrial units must meet in order to be imported legally into the USA. So what has this done? Well, you can still very easily get your very own high power products right from the internet if you know a reputable distributor, but now more than likely your laser device will have a safety key, a 2 second laser beam ignition delay, an indicator LED, and several other safety features. Now, not every hand held laser out there has these safety features, but that is because only certain classifications of pointers require these specific safety measures. Other models, such as your simple 5mw green laser pointer or even your higher power pointer, will not combine these safety devices into the lasers production.

It seems that the media as well as the vast collection of dangerous units flooding the internet these days has received enough public recognition to have laws and regulations created by the FDA affecting simply the laser pointer world. Whatever your motive for buying burning laser pointers, be sure that you keep your own safety and the welfare of others in mind. Higher power lasers are capable of burning electric tape, so be sure to take proper measures so as to avoid laser eye damage or skin burns.

Something to keep in mind whenever considering obtaining a device will be bright! Do not expect to be staring towards the beam of a high power laser any time soon. Be careful where you point the power of a burning laser, you can very quickly feel the light burn your skin, so be careful around others. If you are using such a powerful laser to simply do a few burning tricks or make some videos, for the sake of all hobbyists, do not do anything too dangerous. Burning lasers could use a little distance from any further negative attention, so enjoy with care.

The Bright Pointer is the only electronic item in the set, it is a laser pointer. Quality wise, this toy is quite well made. No cracks in the rubber, the plastic is sturdythanks to a good design. This set consists of three well-made toys. Unfortunately the same can't be said for the Input Card Gun. I reviewed the Input Card Gun a little while back and had some problems with the electronics. Those problems carried into this video. Some of the cards from the Semission Magazine tend to make random sounds at times rather than the sounds that are supposed to come out. This is quite annoying, but like I said ... this is a fault of the Card Gun more than anything. When everything is attached to the Input Card Gun this toy is MASSIVE. The Input Card Gun is 1/1ish stairs to the prop used in the show. While the Beet Arms are smaller than their prop counterparts, they maintain a nice size to be close to scale ...

Infrared (IR) light Greenlight (wavelength of 532nm) is the most visible color to the human eye and any greenlaser you buy should give out greenlight and ONLY greenlight. Our Viper laserpointers and Hulk portable lasers for example only give out 532nm greenlight. Give out little walk into town! lasers though greenlight AND dangerous infrared (IR) light. Infrared light cannot be seen by the human eye so the beam from these little walk into town! laser pointers is not as bright as it should be and is also very dangerous.

You may be asking how a little walk into town! laser pointer can have a power of 200mW but be less bright than a 55mW Viper laser pointer. Here is the trick. As we just said, these laser pointers give out a lot of infrared light which you can't see making them less bright. Laser power Meters however cannot distinguish between green light and infrared light. The 200mW power level of a little walk into town! laser pointer will normally be made up of mostly infrared light. For example a 200mW little walk into town!laser pointer > is likely to have a combination 25mW green (532 nm) and 175mW infrared (808nm). A 55mW Viper laser pointer will be 55mW of green light with virtually no infrared light.

All genuine green laser pointers and portable lasers have infrared Filters inside them that blocks infrared light. Little walk into town! laser pointers have had this Filter removed. Without this Filter, these laser pointers are very dangerous because the infrared light can damage your eyes and you would not even be aware of it until to late.

Poor quality cases/shells

The shell for both Viper laser pointers and Hulk portable lasers are made from a special metal alloy that is very effective at dissipating heat and protecting the laser diode. When a Viper 95mW laser pointer has been working for 60 seconds, your hand can feel the heat been released from the shell as the laser is kept cool.

Pot modding

Many little walk into town! lasers are only designed to operate at low powers such as 5 or 10mW. These lasers have the power from the batteries to the diode boosted to give a more powerful beam. The problem with modding these lasers is that the diode, their shell, lens, crystal and even the on/off switch are not designed for the higher power and temperature. Most modified lasers will burn out and be completely useless in a matter of days, often only hours. A simple analogy is putting a 200W light globe in a light that is only designed to handle 25W. The light may work butit will be long before the warps, the mounting frame melts and the light is destroyed.

Component Quality

In the end, a plastic box can be easily copied or imitated but there is no substitute for cutting edge lasers technology!
